2014 Ridgetop Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

2014 Ridgetop Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

2014 was our sixth vintage sourcing fruit from Ridgetop Vineyard, owned and managed by Thomas Rivers Brown and Fred Schrader. Ulises Valdez cares for the vineyard with precise attention to detail that is demanded by this extreme site. Ridgetop is located in the remote coastal mountains along the northern Sonoma Coast near Annapolis, California. Surrounded by redwoods at approximately 1,100 feet above the Pacific, the salty sea air and ocean breezes are ever present. Thick fog receeds each day to present ideal ripening conditions for Pinot noir. The vines produce minuscule yields each vintage with concentrated flavors, provocative aromatics and silky texture. The vines struggle to grow in Goldridge loam soils and a collection of old silt, sandstone and ancient seabed. In 2014, Dijon clones 115, 667, and 777 were blended together after being fermented separately. This wine offers explosive aromatics of red and tropical fruits that overlay a bold strength and complexity at its core. The texture is rich and supple, creating a very seductive wine that is a pleasure to drink.

Ridgetop Vineyard

West Sonoma Coast

Located just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean in the town of Annapolis, and sitting at 1,100 feet above sea level, Ridgetop Vineyard is Sojourn’s most coastal vineyard site. The maritime influence effectively moderates high temperatures during summer and fall, while the vineyard’s position on the eastern side of the first coastal ridge protects it from fog.
