2023 UV Silver Eagle Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
2023 UV Silver Eagle Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
This vineyard was developed in 2006 by the late Ulises Valdez, one of the best vineyard managers in the region. The Valdez Family continues to care meticulously for the vineyard, which sits in a cool area of the western Sonoma Coast near the town of Occidental. While yields in general were on the higher side in 2023, the clusters and berries were miniscule due to heavy fog during flowering. The small, concentrated berries resulted in a stunning wine with intense red and orange fruit flavors, a silky palate, and impeccable balance. Calera clone forms the core of the blend and is complemented by a special “suitcase” Vosne-Romanée clone, adding natural acidity and rich texture.

"The seriously good 2023 Sojourn ‘UV Siver Eagle Vineyard’ Pinot Noir comes from this location that was developed back in 2006 by the late Ulises Valdez. It is a cooler site set on Sebastopol rocky clay loam soils. Bright cranberry and red cherry pie mark the palate alongside red licorice and rocky soils on the palate. Dense, with a smooth mouthfeel, enjoy now and over the next ten plus years." - Owen Bargreen

"The 2023 Pinot Noir UV Silver Eagle Vineyard boasts a deeper, jeweled ruby color and is ripe with aromas of raspberry liqueur, fresh forest herbs, savory undertones, and a darker floral perfume. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with polished tannins, even, ripe acidity, and a clean finish. It’s a more polished but fully dry wine and has a fruitier and deeper feel, although it’s very light on its feet. " - Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck
