2013 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

2013 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

This Cabernet Sauvignon was produced primarily from grapes sourced from Oakville Ranch Vineyard, sitting at 1,000 to 1,400 feet above sea level with a westward aspect overlooking Napa Valley. This vineyard is nestled in an area that presents a real who’s who of famous neighbors. The vineyard was replanted in 2006 by esteemed organic viticulturist Phil Coturri, and has quickly gained a reputation for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon wines in Napa Valley. The clusters are small and loose with tiny berries that possessed excellent color and flavors at harvest. The rocky clay, loam and basalt soils have a heavy iron influence that gives the wine structure, power and depth. The 2013 vintage provided idyllic weather conditions in Napa Valley with moderate heat during the core summer months and just enough high heat and dry conditions during the day to ripen the grapes at an even pace. This wine spent three weeks fermenting on skins to ensure that the tannins and fruit flavors were balanced. The resulting wine is rich and vibrant, presenting vivid flavors of blackberry, raspberry and mocha with hints of graphite.

Oakville Ranch Vineyard

Oakville, Napa Valley

At 1,000 to 1,400 feet above sea level, the Oakville Ranch Vineyard looks west over Napa Valley. This high elevation and western exposure, in combination with soils of clay over volcanic rock, produce the rich, powerfully structured wines that make the vineyard one of the most sought-after in California for Cabernet Sauvignon.
